3Chris's Proposal to KateWe stayed in Blowing Rock in the middle of a rare North Carolina snowstorm. I convinced my girlfriend at the time Kate Davis Ballance, to hike through ice & snow to the base of Linville Falls because I "wanted to take a photo." I gave her the camera to "try some test shots" while I popped open my camera bag, dropped to one knee, and pulled out the ring. "Be my wife?" was the question and "Yes" was the answer. The material is one of my first business cards from Simtek, a textile engineering startup I worked at in college.

20Levine Museum of the New SouthThe New South means people, places and a period of time — from 1865 to today. Levine Museum of the New South is an interactive history museum that provides the nation with the most comprehensive interpretation of post-Civil War southern society featuring men, women and children, black and white, rich and poor, long-time residents and newcomers who have shaped the South since the Civil War. New South Quick Facts A Time—The New South is the period of time from 1865, following the Civil War, to the present. A Place—The New South includes areas of the Southeast U.S. that began to grow and flourish after 1865. An Idea—The New South represents new ways of thinking about economic, political and cultural life in the South. Reinvention—The New South encompasses the spirit of re-invention. The end of slavery forced the South to reinvent its economy and society. People—The New South continuously reinvents itself as newcomers, natives, immigrants, visitors and residents change the composition and direction of the region. 5Rafaldinie Raffaldini family dates back to the year 1348 in the town of Mantua, located in the Northern Province of Lombardy, Italy. To this day, the family owns and lives on the land that is their ancestral home. The romantic town of Verona, home to Juliet Capulet of Romeo and Juliet, lies just to the North. Sangiovese Riserva 09 The Raffaldini family motto, “Audentes Fortuna Iuvat” means, “Fortune favors those who dare.” This Latin phrase originates from the Aeneid, Virgil’s most famous work. Born in 70 BC during the reign of Julius Caesar, Virgil is best known as the author of this epic poem that links the birth of Rome to the Trojan War. The fusion of family, food and wine is an integral part of our daily life. For more than six hundred and fifty years, the Raffaldini family has witnessed many historic events and has often marked such occasions with special family dinners and homemade Italian wine. The Raffaldini family made a decision to share our centuries-old wine experience with the New World. After a long and exhaustive search for land that would reflect this experience, Raffaldini Vineyards was established in the Swan Creek area of the Yadkin Valley. From this vineyard, we handcraft our Italian wines; wines that express not only their “sense of place”, but also utilize winemaking skills that have been refined throughout the ages.

44SteampunkSteampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne or real technologies like the computer but developed earlier in an alternate history. -Wikipedia
